HOLIDAY GREETINGS

Tlie year 1912 is about gone, and its record either good or bad will soon pass into history.

It has been a source of great pleasure to me that during the year so nearly passed there has been
renewed activity among most of the lodges of the state and a greater interest shown, and I believe when the
reports come in that we will have a much larger gain during the last six months than we did the first half of
the year, and that while we may not have been able to regain first place in membership, that the 50,000 mark
will be reached and even passed. Those of you who have done your best to cause your Lodge to grow and
prosper, will reap the reward and realize the happiness that comes to those who have done what they could.
And to those who have done nothing for the good of the Order, have not even tried to bring in one new member
or labored to make your lodge meetings pleasant and profitable, I can only say, I am sorry for you, because
you have missed one of the most pleasant things in life, the realization of having been of some use and of
doing some good in the world.

The work we are pledged to do, the happiness we are striving to create, the misery we are laboring
to ameliorate surely deserves the best endeavors of every one of the members of our Order and should appeal, to
every right-minded man or woman to whom-our work is presented.

Too little has been said about the aim and object of our Degree, the spirit of unselfishness we are x
striving to implant in the lives and hearts of our members, the desire to work for the good of humanity, for their
up-lifting and up-building we are fostering, to those whom we are seeking as members, and too much about!”

tion. Many a one has been discouraged and kept from joining our ranks, by the ill-timed jests of those, who,
instead of giving the impression~tVvat'~the initiatory ceremony is asorLof ..circus degree, should tell something
of its beautiful teachings. Let us uphold the dignity of our Order and keep our standard high, atways"femem-’
bering that we want only the best men and women to come in with us.

During the year almost past, we have instituted 5 Lodges, resuscitated 4, a total of 9, but have '

taken up the Charters of 9, so, have made no gain in the number of Lodges; but I believe when the legislation
we are asking of Grand Lodge, requiring- reji r esentatiyes.to_be Rebekahs shall become a law, (and it will some
time) that the number of Lodges will be increased as well as the membership in the state. . •'"t— — 1

There has been much misunderstanding in this matter, but I think a careful study of the situation
will show the right and justice of our request. It is not coercion to ask that those who make the laws govern¬
ing Rebekah Lodges shall be themselves Rebekahs any more than it is to require a brother wishing to join a
Canton, to be an Encampment member. - -

We are a part of Odd Fellowship, and to better carry on the work we are doing identically the same
as that of the Subordinate Lodges. We need and should have the support and assistance of more members of
the Order than we have now. . ■ ■

In closing I want to thank every member who has in any way contributed to the success we have
had during the year and to ask of all, each and every one, your hearty cooperation and assistance in the year to
come, that Odd Fellowship, and particularly our own Rebekah branch, may grow to even larger proportions
and do more and better work.

May you all have a pleasant Holiday season, a prosperous and happy New Year and may each one
be more active in the Order, as the years come and go.
